Socks for Animals, the socks that support wildlife

Socks are the 1 thing I request for Christmas every year. And the Socks for Animals subscription is the gift that keeps giving. Each month you get a different sock that supports wildlife research. December’s sock goes to help the polar bear. There is 38 more hours to get yours on Kickstarter.

I know you’re not supposed to get a pet as a gift. So maybe someone will convince you to get a rescue dog like Cleo the Beagle. Shes’ snuggling me on the couch right now as I write this, so I guess you could say she’s also the gift that keeps giving. Adopt, don’t shop!

Maybe you’re making early New Year’s resolutions or know someone who is. Want to run a marathon, half marathon or 5K this spring? Consider the Milwaukee Marathon (and half and 5K) in April. As a bonus, it’s being partially run by Marquette University students through the new Marquette Business Student Run Business program, which provides real-world experience for students. Also, I’ll be pacing a marathon group.

I’m terrible in the kitchen. As my kids remind me, I burn whatever food they were unlucky enough for me to attempt making for them. But the breakfast maker is the item that makes me feel like I could have my own Netflix cooking show and I could actually nourish human life. I use it to make egg sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner and the occasional late-night snack. Get it for the kitchen idiot in your life.

Subscriptions to support writing and journalism
A gift for me? You shouldn’t have. But if you insist, you can get a Medium subscription for $5/month for yourself or gift it to someone. This is where I do most of my writing. Or support your local journalism outlet of choice, like my former colleagues at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel or the amazing podcast collective Radiotopia. Thank you!

How about you? What’s on your wish list or giving list that helps support others?
