Thanks for this perspective. When I was younger, I wanted to be a travel writer and I took a part-time job at an airline for the free flights. I traveled to places like Seattle for 24 hours just because I could.
This made me realize a few things. 1) Much of the commercial tourism industry thrives on structural inequality. 2) By flying around the world, I was missing what was right in my own backyard.
Of course, I still travel, but I try to be more mindful about it. After I quit that job, my next trip was a bike trip. I preferred the bike trip.
