This is my go-to tactic for every presentation. At first I thought maybe I wasn’t doing my job as a presenter if I didn’t talk the whole time. Then as I slowly introduced audience participation, I learned from the feedback that people found it refreshing when I made the session less about me and more about them.

Now I always try to come up with new and fresh ways to engage the audience with me and with each other. For instance, at the last conference I attended I spoke about “Social media best practices for educators.” I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to show rather than simply tell. So I invited everyone in the audience join a Facebook group and interact with each other.

The best part is it continues the conversation even after the presentation.
