…sound charmingly off-the-cuff, but it’s a safe bet they’ve also spent considerable time practicing. It’s a very rare journalist who can step into agency-land and impress with their presenting skills, so be prepared to practice. Run your lines, present your slides to yourself, and put in the time to get good at presenting.
This was one of the biggest surprises to me when I made the switch for journalism to marketing nearly a decade ago. I used PowerPoint for the first time. I sweated. I practiced. I sucked. I practiced a lot more.
Now 9+ years later I’m still practicing presentation skills, but it’s something I actually enjoy and a huge part of my role.
