In other words, you first need the basics of salary/benefits and an enjoyable environment. If you’re always afraid of getting laid off and you hate your crappy cubicle and co-workers, you’re going to hate your job. But a nice environment and stable paycheck isn’t enough to motivate you. For that, you need challenges to tackle and the autonomy, support and skill to succeed when met with new problems.
